About
I currently work as an Associate Professor in the Department of Linguistics at Ankara University. My research interests include acoustic phonetics, stress perception, prosody-syntax interaction, and the neural bases of prosody. I use methods such as acoustic analyses, EEG, eye-tracking, and pupillometry. I conduct my studies and lead my research group at the Phonetics Lab in Ankara University Brain Research Centre (AUBAUM), NÖROM, and Ankara University Linguistic Lab (diLab).
I completed my fellowship in 2014 with the TUBITAK BIDEB 2214/A International PhD Fellowship at the Max Planck Institute for Human Cognitive and Brain Sciences in Leipzig, Germany. My supervisors were Angela D. Friederici and Daniela Sammler at the Otto Hahn Research Group. During my fellowship, I studied the ERP processing of prosody-syntax interaction at the post-verbal position in Turkish sentences.
Subsequently, I completed my post-doc on the acoustic characteristics of compound-phrase distinction in Turkish using the BIDEB 2219 Post-Doc Research Fellowship in the Phonetics Group at Saarland University, under the supervision of Bernd Möbius.

Papers
My first-authored paper with Alper Kumcu entitled “Looking at online language comprehension with the visual world paradigm: a systematic and cross-linguistic review of three decades”, has been accepted to “Journal of Linguistic Research” (in press).
My first-authored paper with Seçkin Arslan and Özgür Aydın, entitled “What eye movements reveal about pre-verbal focus processing in Turkish: An eye-tracking study on sentence comprehension during reading”, has been accepted for inclusion in “Empirical Insights into Language and Cognition”, edited by Bilal Kırkıcı and forthcoming from Nobel (in press).

4-6 September 2025 In September, at the 22nd International Conference on Turkish Linguistics organized by Dokuz Eylül University in İzmir, Turkey, we will present three papers (two talks and one poster presentation):
the first is a joint paper with Ali Çağan Kaya and Berkay Bostan entitled “Eyes on the pupil size: Pupillary sensitivity to morphophonological mismatches in Turkish”,
the second is Elçin Elif Eren, Kardelen Çiftçi, and Özgür Aydın entitled “The interaction between the Transposed Letter Effect and Selective Attention: A Pupillometry Study”,
and the last one was with Merve Nur Arslan entitled “Acoustic Characteristics of Formant Frequencies and Transitions of /h/ in Turkish”.
22-23 May 2025 In May, at the 38th National Linguistic Conference organized by Atatürk University in Erzurum, Turkey, I presented two talks:
